8.5 Legit Reasons To Drink Red Wine

“Whether wine is a nourishment, medicine or poison is a matter of dosage.”
By Paracelsus (Phillip von Hohenheim), Swiss alchemist, physician and astrologer (1493–1541)

1. It is Rich in Polyphenols

Polyphenols are plant compounds that have a multitude of health benefits, including reductions in blood pressure, inflammation, cholesterol and stress levels (to name a few) contributing to good gut flora.

Polyphenols can’t always be digested by human cells as they aren’t absorbed efficiently, most make their way to the colon, where they can be digested by gut bacteria. By the way, dark chocolate is a great contender too.

2. It’s good for your heart

Red wine contains the powerful antioxidant resveratrol, which has been shown to reduce fat accumulation in arteries and improve heart function.

4. Better Brain Function

Crossword puzzles and other brain activities can help stave off dementia and Alzheimer's. But while you're giving your brain a workout, don't forget to pour yourself a glass of wine. "Wine helps prevent clots and reduces blood vessel inflammation, both of which have been linked to cognitive decline," explains Tedd Goldfinger, DO, of the University of Arizona School of Medicine.

5. Lowers Risk of Dementia or Alzheimer’s

Following on from above, people who are over the age of 75 who consume 2 glasses of wine every day can lower their risk by 37%, reports JAMA Network Open. Ironically.

6. It’s Great for Cooking

The next time you cook, actually drink wine while cooking. You’ll enjoy the process more, spend more time doing it and food made with love (normally) tastes better. Also add a little wine to your favourite sauces and taste the magic even more so.

7.
Boost your body’s defences

Those who drank approximately a glass of wine a day reduced their risk of infection Helicobacter pylori bacteria, a major cause of gastritis, ulcers, and stomach cancers - by 11%. Source.

8. Mental Wellbeing

It’s great at helping you forget why you wanted a drink in the first place.

1/2. WOGA

That’s the clever pairing of wine & yoga. Yoga is incredibly good for you and it’s half of WOGA.

*Please drink responsibly. Or don’t, I’ve had a drink and therefore don’t care.
